PARTICIPANT FEEDBACK

What Participants Have Said

Waranya Phonsiri

Ko Samui, Surat Thani

"The Calm Conversations workshop gave me a few small things to try at home that genuinely changed how tense evenings went with my teenager. I didn't expect anything dramatic — and there wasn't anything dramatic. Just some practical tools that helped me choose my words more carefully. It was worth the afternoon."

"The Keepsake Records Session was something we had been putting off for ages. We had documents from three countries in random drawers. Somchai was patient and methodical. We left with a folder that actually makes sense. The session is administrative rather than legal — they made that very clear upfront, which was fine, that's exactly what we needed."

"I joined the Lantern Community in April. The monthly workshops have covered things like how to bring up money conversations without it becoming tense. Nothing prescriptive — just general ideas and a chance to hear how others approach things. The community is warm. People are kind. I'm glad I joined."

"Came to the communication workshop with my partner, a bit sceptical to be honest. The facilitator was calm and clear about what the session was and wasn't — no counselling, no advice-giving, just skill-building. That transparency actually helped us relax. Left with a card of ideas we've referred back to a couple of times."

"My mother had kept every important family document loose in a box. After the records session, everything is in a labelled folder with a simple index. She now knows exactly where to find her hospital card, her land deed copies, her children's records. It sounds small but it really wasn't — it removed a source of stress she had carried for years."

"I appreciated that the Lantern Community is moderated. I've been part of online groups that descended into venting or unsolicited advice. This one stays constructive. The monthly live sessions are a genuine highlight — I've taken away something useful from each one. Worth noting that it's educational, not therapeutic, and they are transparent about that."

Stories from the Sessions

These are composites drawn from participant feedback. All personal details have been changed. These stories reflect educational and organising outcomes only.

CASE STUDY 01 · CALM CONVERSATIONS WORKSHOP

"We kept having the same argument before we even started the real conversation."

THE SITUATION

A couple in their late forties living on Ko Samui with a mixed household of Thai and international family members. They described conversations about shared household decisions consistently getting off to a difficult start before the real topic was even raised.

WHAT THE WORKSHOP COVERED

General skill-building around timing — how to notice when a conversation is not going to land well, and simple ways to choose a moment rather than push through one. Also practical framing tools for opening difficult topics with less friction. Educational only.

WHAT THEY NOTICED AFTER

The couple came back for a second session two months later and mentioned that they had used one of the timing tools consistently and found that arguments before the conversation began had reduced. They described the change as modest but meaningful.

"We didn't expect a workshop to fix anything. We just wanted a few new ideas. That's what we got."

CASE STUDY 02 · KEEPSAKE RECORDS SESSION

"No one in our family knew where anything was. It was always a panic."

THE SITUATION

An extended family — three adult siblings and their elderly mother — had shared a family home for decades. Important documents were spread across multiple drawers, bags, and boxes without any shared system. Whenever something was needed, it took hours to locate.

WHAT THE SESSION INVOLVED

A three-hour organising session with all four family members present. Tendara's facilitator helped them sort, categorise, and label what they had. A keepsake folder was prepared with a simple index. Where official documents appeared to need professional handling, the family was advised to consult appropriate bodies — that was outside the session's scope.

OUTCOME

The family now has a single, labelled folder as a shared reference point. The eldest sibling described the change as having removed a background source of tension that had existed for years — not because of any interpersonal intervention, but simply because everyone now knew where to look.

"The folder is sitting on the shelf now. My mum knows exactly where everything is. That's all we needed."

CASE STUDY 03 · LANTERN COMMUNITY MEMBERSHIP

"I wanted to keep learning, not just do a one-off session and forget it."

THE SITUATION

A single parent living in Bo Phut who had attended the Calm Conversations workshop and found it useful. She was looking for a way to continue exploring general communication and household skills without committing to individual sessions each time.

HOW MEMBERSHIP HELPED

The monthly workshops gave her a regular, low-pressure learning touchpoint. The printable guides were useful between sessions. The peer community gave her a space to hear how others approached similar general situations — with facilitation keeping discussions educational rather than advice-driven.

SEVEN MONTHS ON

She described having built a small library of printed guides that she keeps in her kitchen. She said the community had become something she looked forward to — and that when personal matters came up, the facilitators were clear about directing her to appropriate professional resources.

"I've learned more in seven months of membership than I expected. It's gentle, it's consistent, and the scope is always clear."
